We all possess diverse gifts and skills to share with the world...
It is important for us to recognize these within ourselves. We simply have to tap into what makes each of us unique.

Growing up in the Scotlandville community, I remember watching live show productions on TV and dreaming of working behind the scenes. With a background in singing and a deep love for music, arts, and entertainment—thanks to my family of musicians and artists—I moved to Atlanta/New York City determined to work in the arts, and I didn't take "no" for an answer.
Now, 17 years and thousands of emails later, I'm a Script Coordinator, involved in every aspect of filmmaking and a live show production stage manager. I've learned the value of following up, persevering, networking, praying, and continually learning my craft.
My passion for wedding and event planning began in 1995 with Lifetime's "Weddings of a Lifetime," further fueled by the episode of "Family Matters" where Steve Urkel proposed to Laura Winslow. This interest was solidified in 2001 when Jennifer Lopez starred in "The Wedding Planner." By 2010, I had turned this love into a career by starting Color Me Beautiful Wedding Planning & Event Design (www.colormebeautifulweddings.com ) in Atlanta, GA.
Starting a business definitely had its challenges. I remember driving to Atlanta with just $1500, a connection for a $40-per-night room, and a lot of faith. My original plan to charge $3000 per wedding quickly proved unrealistic. After participating in two bridal shows, expecting to meet 5000 brides and sign 20 of them, I walked away with not a single booking, and my discounted hotel stay was running out. I had to rethink my strategy. Through many hours of hard work, I learned the importance of marketing, PR, networking, and understanding trends. Since then, I've planned over 75 weddings, with the highest budget reaching $350,000.
Recognizing how daunting it can be to start a new event planning business, especially after a successful run of weddings, in 2019, I launched "Color Me Successful." This program is designed to help aspiring small business owners create their own event planning businesses and thrive in competitive markets.
My passion for technology began in 1997 when my mother brought home a Compaq Deskpro 8086 computer. Unlike most people who were excited about internet surfing, I was fascinated by the inner workings of the computer. It was then that I knew I wanted to work with computers.
Throughout my career, I have faced the challenge of being a woman in tech, often having to work harder for opportunities. Now, 20 years later, I am an IT Project Manager, and I have successfully planned and executed over 700 projects from start to finish, primarily focusing on implementing IT infrastructure for existing and start-up physician practices. Over the years, I have gained experience in various IT areas. What started as a hobby has become a fulfilling career.
My goal now is to my community through STEAM and IT training. I want to inspire them and provide insights into technology careers, encouraging them to embrace a field where they might be a minority.
Here are some of my experiences:
* IT Hardware/Software Troubleshooting
* Website Design/Development
* IT Project Management (certified in SAFE Agile)
* IT Security and Asset Management
* Healthcare IT (EMR Implementation)
"Service Before Self" is a name that was given to me by my family and friends. I was raised in a household where we were taught that it's better to give than to receive, and that philosophy has stuck with me throughout my life.
My goal in life is to be a light in a world of darkness and to open doors for those who are underrepresented. I want to use my skills and resources to make a positive impact on the world and help others achieve their full potential.
Organizations That I Work With:
Smart Investments Real Estate Group, LLC is a company that my husband and I created. We believe achieving financial freedom is possible through investing, especially when we reinvest in our own communities within East Baton Rouge Parish, where we grew up.
We understand that getting into real estate investing can seem daunting. That's why we enjoy helping our community learn how to create additional income streams through real estate.
